Hi everyone, well christmas and the New Year have come and gone, and May is upon me!! I have of course been busy quilting lots of quilts and because I’m off to MQS which is in Wichita MI on the 12 May, I hope I’m ahead of myself abit!
I want to share the neat article the HB today newspaper printed in April.
“HB longarm quilter Lesley O’Rourke knows a thing or two about quilting. Working out of a bustling Austin street studio the sucess of local gem Quarryburn Quilting is evident in both the demand from HB’s thriving quilting community and growing national recognition. The realisation of a long-held ambition Lesley’s purchase of a fully computerised Gammill ‘Statler’ stitcher quilting machine in 2006 quickly tapped into a need, and business took off. Quilting is a passion for Lesley, who has been sewing since she was a child. “my mother and grandmother taught me to sew and knit, and I made clothing for both myself and my four children, as well as dabbling in many needlework crafts over the years.” Lesley taught herself to quilt by reading magazines and watching ‘Simply Quilts’ with Alex Andersen, and because she knows just how much blood, sweat and tears goes into producing a single quilt, recognises the privilege and responsibility of being trusted with such precious work. Before long, Lesley was wining blue ribbons for quilts completed in her spare time, taking Excellence in Machine Quilting at the New Zealand Quilt Symposium in 2011, and having two quilts accepted for the World Quilt show in 2010. This year Lesley is travellling to the home of quilting in the American Mid-west, to attend the Machine Quilters Showcase (MQS) – a premier quilting event. “My skills as a quilter are in demand, however I’m a tiny tadpole in a really big pond. Having the opporturnity to attend MQS, learn new techniques, enhance my quilting skills and see what’s happening at the forefront of the industry is a dream come true.” Lesley returns from Kansas in mid-June, get in touch now and be first to infuse your New Zealand Quilt with the latest in international quilting trends.
So, Vicki-Marie Thompson will have the Studio open on Mondays, while I’m away, and I will be back in the studio from the 17 June!
